When a friend of mine gave me a ticket to StomperNet Live, I saw that as a golden opportunity to make great connections with some of the leading internet marketing experts in the world.  People like Dan Hollings, the marketing genius behind “The Secret”, and Brad Fallon, CEO of StomperNet.
The obstacles facing me: I only had 2 weeks to prepare, and there were going to be hundreds of people there with the same game plan to make those contacts.
My solution:
  1. I found an artist online, and paid her a reasonable fee to paint a watercolor portrait of each of the conference presenters – Gurus all – and one of myself.  The portraits were to have comic book-style backgrounds and to be in a small spectrum of colors that would lay out well together.
  2. I had the same artist to paint a portrait of me, in the same style.
  3. I had the artist lay out the Guru portraits with my portrait on a poster.
  4. I had business cards presented with my stylized portrait as the front of the card.
  5. I printed out enough posters to give to each presenter, plus a few extra to give away to key contacts I would make during the conference.
  6. After each presentation, I walked up to the presenter with a poster, my business card, and the original portrait of them, and told them that I’d done this for the express purpose of helping them to remember me after the c0nference.
It worked!  After the first two gurus got their packages from me, word got around, and they were looking for me at the end of their presentations.

I’m writing the first post for this blog from a posh hotel room on the 10th floor of the Hyatt in downtown Atlanta, GA, where I’m getting a little sleep, networking my booty off, and learning more than I thought possible.

I really didn’t know what to expect from the StomperNet experience, but it’s truly the best business educational experience I’ve had to date.

A couple fun points that I’ll be sharing with you soon and VERY soon:

  • I got myself a LiveScribe smart pen for the conference, so I’ve been recording audio at the same time I’ve been writing notes, and the results are fantastic.  I’ll be sharing what I can with you – though I have to make sure I’m doing it in a way that doesn’t infringe on anyone’s copyrights.
  • I put together some nice promotional materials for the conference, and I’ve made a point to personally give them to every presenter after they’ve finished.  It’s gotten me a foot in the door, with some world class marketing players saying things like, “this is awesome – I can’t believe I didn’t think of this!”  and “email me!” and “I certainly won’t forget you!”
